Captain Marvel was created by Stan Lee and Gene Colan in 1967 and appeared for the first time in number 12 of Marvel Super-Heroes. The character is a Kree military officer who is sent to observe the Earth and, being aware of his superiors' malign intent, allies himself with Earth and fights to protect our planet from all threats. This "1960s version" just depicts the character in his early variant and is very faithful to the original Comic books. The statue was sculpted by the Kucharek brothers and released in 2007, with a run of 1000 samples. The alien soldier is erect in a frontal pose, with the head just rotated, the right arm elongated with closed fist and the left one bent, holding a hi-tech gun. The pose emphasizes the sculptural physique of the hero, with hyper-defined abdominals and pectorals, bumped biceps and long-limbed, athletic legs. The visual impact is guaranteed by the fine chromatic contrast of the suit, characterized by a nacreous white background and the bright green color of boots, gloves, the costume at pubic region and the patch covering both shoulders and connected to the mask, The emblem of a planet stands out at the center of the chest, while a large belt, with the empty gun's holster, embellishes the waist. Also the mask is very well designed: it leaves uncovered the ears and the face up to the nose level, shows two nacreous eyes and exhibits a rigid crest, centered on the head. Note the attractive design of the silvery gun, which somehow reminds the typical style of 60s in representing an alien object. The base is circular and depicts a sort of black volcanic terrain with bluish nuances, covered with a sort of pale grey ash. Among the many 1:6 statues devoted to Captain Marvel by Bowen Design, this 1960s version has no doubt the most evident "retro" style and, of course, it can appear a little bit old-fashioned; nevertheless, in my opinion, this is just the strength of the piece, which is certainly appreciated by all old fans of the Marvel Universe.
